Background:

 

Parent organisation:

Puntland Diaspora Forum is the parent organisation established in the US 2008.  (You can visit PDF website for more information: http://puntlanddiasporaforum.org/)

As you know Puntland was established as a result of prolonged social and political disasters that led to the disintegration of Somalia.  Somali continues to be on the path of self destruction.  It is therefore very important that Puntlanders wherever they are work together to protect Puntland, which was a save heaven for those fleeing the South for the poast 18 years from further disasters.  Also, Puntland suffers from a brain drain, and all our efforts and expertise are very much appreciated.  Puntalnd Diaspora forum is founded to advocate for peace, development, justice, equality and democratic development for Puntland, and will aim at promoting the cause of Puntland worldwide. 

London PDF moduled itself on its parents organisation PDF, MN US.  It continues to have a close link with the US chapter, and it is tied to it in a relationship of collaboration and information sharing.  However, it is worth noting that London PDF is an independent organisation which has complete autonomy for its local operations and decision making.

Made of professionals ,Two parallel committees Technical committee –

Sub divided to:

Media and public relations, Puntland professionals,  community affairs, and political wing.Advisory Committee –

Sub divided to:

Political, peacemakers, religion and cultural experts, women and family

 the size to be agreed but generally their number can exceed that of the technical committee – the role is to advise, to guide and to safeguard the overall purpose of the organisation

 

 

Objectives:

London PDF shares objectives with its parent organisation PDF, US chapter:

PDF is organized to accomplish the following objectives: 1) Harness Puntland Diaspora Resources,Leverage Puntland Diaspora economic, human, and technology resources for Puntland’s development.Build “Info”structure for Resource Sharing Promote knowledge transfer and information sharing among all Puntlanders in the Diaspora, and the public and private sectors in Puntland Strengthen Collectiveness and Influence Mobilize vast support, and promote cooperation and networking among Puntlanders in Diaspora Promote unity, understanding and communications between Puntland organizations, corporations, and individuals in the diaspora Promote civic awareness and advocacy in matters affecting, and issues vital to its constituency. Provide linkages, policy input, and guidance to the government of Puntland and local non-governmental and civic organizations.Promote Puntland Enhance the image of Puntland to strengthen business, travel, and investment opportunities Promote, support and encourage global trade awareness and ethical consciousness that foster positive business climate between Puntland and other states and nations Promote and Advance Democracy and Good Governance Promote good governance and the advancement of democracy,Support the development of the relevant modern institutions for the development of Puntland. Encourage the nascent and emerging civil society organization and provide them the requisite support for promoting freedom and democracy.

Membership is open to both individuals and organisations subject to monthly basis. Concessions would be made for students and the unemployed.

  1. GENERAL MEMBERS.

Membership is open to all individuals (of eighteen (18) years and older) and organizations who support the aims and objectives of the PUNTLAND DIASPORA FORUM. Members should abide by the rules and the bylaws of the Puntland Diaspora Forum and should be actively engaged in the promotion of the development of the welfare of the Puntland State.

  1. HONORARY MEMBERS.

Honorary membership may be granted or approved by a resolution of (2/3) of the board of directors upon recommendation by a member of the board PUNTLAND DIASPORA FORUM. Honorary members shall be entitled to participate in all activities of the PUNTLAND DIASPORA FORUM. They shall not have the right to vote or to be elected.

 

Selection criteria for the technical committee

Two critical selection criteria:

1. Commitment and

2. Diversity within the committed.

The former must always take precedence over the latter. The latter is extremely
